Veg & Voyage: Travelling the World With Kids

🌸 Day 1 – Arrival in Catania & Relaxing by the Sea

Our Sicilian adventure began as we touched down in Catania, a city buzzing with life and framed by the dramatic backdrop of Mount Etna. Instead of rushing off to sightsee, we started slowly—because after all, holidays are also about recharging.

We drove to Giardini Naxos, a picturesque coastal town near Taormina, and checked into Delta Hotels Giardini Naxos, our base for the next five nights. With its beautiful seaside views and family-friendly vibe, it was the perfect spot to unwind.

The rest of the afternoon was spent soaking up the sun and dipping into the Mediterranean Sea, while the kids splashed around. Dinner was at the hotel, offering plenty of vegetarian-friendly options—a gentle, delicious start to our Sicilian journey.

🌸 Day 2 – Poolside Bliss & Evening in Taormina

We began the morning at a leisurely pace with breakfast at the hotel, followed by more time by the pool and beach. Sicily has a way of reminding you to slow down, and that’s exactly what we did. 🌞🏊‍♀️🌊

By afternoon, we drove to Taormina. Our first stop was the Greek Theatre, an ancient amphitheater with sweeping views of Mount Etna and the coastline. Wandering the charming streets and local market afterward, we soaked in the lively atmosphere and baroque charm.

Lunch was a casual bite on the go, while dinner was at La Napoletana, where we enjoyed delicious pizzas and plenty of vegetarian options. A perfect blend of relaxation and discovery, Taormina captured our hearts. 🍕✨

🌋 Day 3 – Alcantara Gorge, Mount Etna & Sicilian Winery

Day 3 was all about adventure and nature. On our way to Mount Etna, we stopped at the Alcantara Gorge, a stunning natural wonder carved by ancient lava flows and cooled by rushing river waters. The dramatic cliffs left us speechless, and the kids loved exploring.

With our guide leading the way, we continued to Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano. Walking along volcanic soil, seeing craters up close, and learning about its history was thrilling and humbling.

Afterward, we visited Palici Winery for lunch, surrounded by rolling vineyards. The rustic Sicilian flavors, paired with local wines (grape juice for the kids!), made it a relaxing highlight of the day. 🍷🍇

In the evening, we attempted dinner at La Spelonca, rounding off a day of contrasts—from volcanic power to serene vineyards—woven into an unforgettable adventure.

🏛️ Day 4 – Exploring Syracuse & Ortigia

We ventured to Syracuse and its enchanting island, Ortigia. Wandering cobbled streets, admiring baroque architecture, and exploring seaside piazzas felt like stepping into a storybook. Highlights included Piazza del Duomo, Syracuse Cathedral, Palazzo Beneventano del Bosco, Temple of Apollo, Fountain of Arethusa, and the Orecchio di Dionisio, with its incredible acoustics and legend. 🏛️✨

A fun twist was riding around Ortigia in a tuk-tuk, giving us glimpses of hidden streets and keeping the kids excited. Lunch at Moon, a vegan-friendly restaurant, was an unexpected delight. Dinner in Augusta wrapped up the day with more Sicilian flavors.

Syracuse and Ortigia perfectly blended history, architecture, culinary surprises, and family fun.

🌅 Day 5 – Relaxation, Seaside Lunch & Taormina’s Hidden Gem

After four busy days, we dedicated Day 5 to relaxation. The morning was spent soaking up the sun and the serene vibes of Giardini Naxos.

Lunch was at Lido La Romantica, right by the beach. The kids enjoyed the shallow waters while we savored fresh, local dishes. 🥗🍋

In the evening, we drove to Castelmola, a charming hilltop town overlooking Taormina. Wandering its streets was like stepping back in time. Dinner at Maxim, a true hidden gem, offered fantastic food, cozy ambiance, and breathtaking views—an idyllic way to close our Sicilian journey. 🍝✨

Day 5 was all about slow moments, scenic beauty, and family togetherness, leaving us with memories to cherish forever.

✨ Final Thoughts

Sicily is a treasure trove of history, nature, food, and culture—perfect for families who want a mix of adventure and relaxation. From the sun-drenched beaches of Giardini Naxos to the awe-inspiring Mount Etna, and from hidden vegan gems to hilltop dinners with a view, every day brought something new to discover.

Travelling with kids can be challenging, but in Sicily, every day felt like an adventure they—and we—will never forget. 🌍❤️
